The article “Before and After? Temporalities of Disaster” explores how disasters disrupt conventional perceptions of time, breaking the linear flow of “before” and “after.” It challenges the idea that disasters are isolated events, emphasizing that their impacts linger over time, often exacerbating pre-existing social, political, and environmental issues. By analyzing various case studies, the article discusses how communities, individuals, and societies are shaped by these temporalities, revealing the ongoing and interconnected nature of disaster response and recovery.
