Meanders

Meanders

Rivers follow gravity in a contingent and organic manner, shaping mountains, landscapes, and natural ecosystems. They connect the clouds with the depths of the ocean and flow beneath our feet. Unlike human-made paths, rivers do not follow straight lines; their courses are full of meanders, embodying multiple identities and directions that differ from human trajectories and temporalities. However, human actions can redirect and transform rivers, altering their courses. This redirection evidence how climate change is not a lack of direction, but rather the imposition of human exploitative and colonial extractive desires on natural systems. The series of works “Meanders” by Santiago Reyes Villaveces explores the poetic and organic lines traced by the flow of rivers in Colombia.
